What is Ozone Therapy?

Ozone therapy is a method used to strengthen the immune system and acts as a complementary method to treat certain types of diseases and wounds.

Made of three different oxygen atoms, ozone gas is applied to treat disorders by stimulating the immune system. Ozone has strong oxidizing properties and kills microorganisms. In addition, all toxins can be neutralized with this gas.  The treatment also accelerates cell regeneration and contributes to the elimination or alleviation of many diseases from diabetes to migraines. Today, the frequency of use of ozone therapy is increasing rapidly.

How Is Ozone Therapy Performed?

Ozone therapy can be a successful application with the help of today’s technology. Frequency and adequate dosage of this treatment is determined by depending on the stage of the disease, age of the patient and special conditions. It’s very important that ozone, which is applied by mixing with oxygen at a certain rate, does not come into contact with air. Two frequently used application methods are available. These are systemic and local.

The most common method used in systemic applications is major. With this method, 50 – 200 cc of blood is taken from patients. The blood, which is combined with a mixture of ozone and oxygen for about 10 minutes, is given back to the patient intravenously. When using this method, factors such as the condition of the disease and the age of the patient are taken into consideration.

In local applications, the appropriate amount of ozone and oxygen mixture is given to the patient through the joints, tendons, muscles and skin, not through the vein. It is also possible to apply this mixture to the muscle and joint cavities. The most preferred method in these applications is minor. In the minor method, the blood taken from the patient and ozonized varies between 2 – 5 cc. This method is a local application method.

Session Time And Possible Side Effects

The duration of the session varies according to the type of disease and the patient’s special conditions. Conditions such as the patient’s age, weight, medical history and disease progression are taken into consideration. The average number of treatment sessions is 10, however this also varies.

In rare cases, temporary low blood pressure may occur during the application. Apart from this, it can be said that there are no health problems caused by ozone itself. However, it should be known that issues may occur as a result of incorrect application technique or incorrect dose.
